News Release
As of September 27, 2005, the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association received $38,600 through Operation Life Ring donations. We are receiving generous donations from individual members, personal trusts, Auxiliary Districts, Divisions and Flotillas who desire to help their fellow members of the Coast Guard family in need.
National Commodore Gene Seibert initiated Operation Life Ring to provide assistance for Auxiliary and Coast Guard personnel and their families affected by the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. He is continuing to work with Commodore Jim Vass of the Eighth Coastal Region who has designated Commodore Joe Taylor as the primary point of contact for members needing assistance. Commodore Taylor is actively working with the Division Captains in the affected areas who are coordinating with their respective Flotilla Commanders to identify members in need and get them together with Commodore Taylor and a field representative for Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (CGMA) that can issue assistance checks on the spot to the members. That effort identified more than 20 members in need in the affected area to date. Commodore Taylor and the CGMA representative are meeting with these members on September 27-29 to provide them with assistance. Commodore Taylor is continuing to work with Division Captains and their Flotilla Commanders in the affected area to identify and contact members needing assistance. 100% of the funds received through Operation Life Ring are for use specifically as grants to the victims. CGMA is providing immediate relief through no-interest loans that they will re-evaluate around April 1, 2006 to determine each individual's specific circumstances and their need for an outright grant. We need your continuing support of Operation Life Ring. Members, Auxiliary units, and any others desiring to help may contribute online by going to http://www.operationlifering.org then clicking on the "Donate Now" graphic or by sending a check or money order to: Coast Guard Auxiliary Association The Auxiliary and Coast Guard families impacted by this disaster continue to need your help. You can provide that help by donating to OPERATION LIFE RING.
