The Coast Guards many missions are now redefined under two main headings, safety and security. Focus on Maritime Domain Awareness provides the Auxiliary with key roles in both major emphasis areas. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the main force for delivery of Recreational Boating Safety missions. Public Education, Vessel Safety Checks and the RBS Visitation Program proved the means to engage the public in safety issues. Waterway Watch provides the means to add a security, as an element, to the public's overall awareness. Safety Patrols, while not thought of as an RBS mission, function across a spectrum that encompasses RBS and Direct Operation Support. The focus on safety and security provides the perspective for all that we do.
