30 Day Stories

Thirty day stories are processed, then the forms are held for 30 days as a media query alibi file before being destroyed under provisions of the Privacy Act.

Hold File Stories

A hold file is a collection of forms for participating members of a unit, kept at FHTNC while the unit is deployed for an extended period of time.   To remain in force, the hold file must be updated every 60 days by the originating command.  While the hold file is active, deployment, mid-deployment, rescue, exercise and return from deployment stories may be submitted and processed about the members of the unit.  After the return from deployment story is run, the hold file is held for 30 days as a media query file.  It is then sent back to the originating command.

One message or letter can result in stories being processed on every form in the unit's hold file, e.g., for deployments or exercises.  Alternatively, stories for individual events, such as promotions, reenlistments, or  reporting aboard, may be processed for selected individuals in the unit's hold file.

During the term of a hold file, the originating command is responsible to advise FHTNC if a person whose name is in the file, leaves the unit.

See the FHTN Center's Deployed Hold File Instructions.

Home Town

For the purpose of the FHTN program, "hometown" may refer to the place of residence of the sea service member's immediate next of kin, a spouse's immediate next of kin, and, when appropriate, college alumni publication.  Other hometown ties could include another blood relative, or an in-law or legal guardian living in the United States or its possessions.  Spouses, or dependent children or friends are not used for hometown ties.  This precludes the possibility of harassment in the event that official duties require the service member to be away from home from their residence on a periodic basis.

Run and Return Stories

Commands that are not deployed, or for some other reason wish to have forms returned, may mark the NAVSO 5724/1 form "Run and Return."  Run and Return stories are released, then the forms are held for 30 days in case there should be media queries.  After that the forms are returned to the command that sent them.
