Commodore Stephen McElroy
National Chief of Staff
Commodore
McElroy was appointed National Chief of Staff on
October 31, 2008. As National Chief of Staff,
Commodore McElroy will lead the National Staff in
the direction of fulfilling the National Commodore’s
goals of stronger leadership, improving the quality
of national programs and meeting the challenges of
the future.
Commodore McElroy joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in January 1993 as a member of Flotilla 9-10, Raleigh, NC. During his fourteen-year career with the Auxiliary, he has served in a variety of staff positions, with an emphasis on Operations. He served for 6 years as the Division Staff Officer for Operations, overseeing the daily planning and deployment of surface operational facilities throughout the Piedmont area of North Carolina. Commodore McElroy has also served in staff positions in Public Education and Member Training as well. During this career Commodore McElroy has been qualified in most Auxiliary programs.
Commodore McElroy accepted the challenge of elected leadership starting with the local Flotilla in Raleigh, then served two terms as Division Captain during 2000-2001. In 2004, he was elected Rear Commodore of Sector North Carolina with the overall responsibility of 1150 members from that state. After one year of service as the Rear Commodore, he was elected Vice Commodore, Fifth District-Southern Region and served in this position until becoming District Commodore in January 2007.
Commodore McElroy is a graduate of Marsh College, Atlanta, Ga. with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. His business career has spanned several professions including the space industry, finance and banking, and for the past 24 years he has with his wife, Pat, owned and operated McElroy and Associates. Commodore McElroy and wife, Pat currently are living in Cary, NC since 1973.
